Special Note from Vibes' Sister:

As Ian's sister, Bev, I would like to thank each and everyone one of you who have sent wonderful messages of love and hope to us, Ian's family. He was a very special person who was blessed with a special creative talent for many "Passions" none bigger than that of his family and friends from all parts of the World. Ian requested that instead of flowers, donations to the hearing-aid program for deaf orphans in Bali be made - today I can report that we have "564 Frangipanis" i.e. $564.00 which will go a long way to a child receiving a hearing aid and education. Thank you to any who donated - donations can still be made if anyone is interested to.

Ms. Beverley Shaw - 21 Tidefall Street, Safety Bay, WA 6169 Australia.

And if you give me your details, you will receive electronic and hard copy progress reports on the child/children that Ian's foundation continues to help.

May God bless and keep each and every one of you. Ian's memory will forever live in our hearts. That death is not believed yet. So he everyone compared to most had loved IDSA. We taking over this passion, it probably will keep building nicer IDSA. You think that he desires most. I meeting to Vibes and 2003 for the first time, 2 years work being possible together, very was happy. Very human feelings being rich, color it is teaching thing, you received Vibes. I do not forget him in long time. You think with the intention of placing the photograph of Vibes in the commemoration shirt in the Miyazaki conference 2007.

Thank you Vibes for the most amazing experiences, the most wonderful memories, a heart so full of Love. In many ways you are now closer than ever before. When someone dies it is like the lamp going out because the sun is rising, not the sun going out... You are in every sunrise, in every sweet angel's song, you are in every raindrop, now and forever long. We love you with all our hearts, forever, Elka and Ray

Vibes' wife text messaged from her cell phone, it  reads as:
“Ian told us 3 days ago die “BIG  WEDNESDAY” a Wednesday in 1970’s in Hawaii. The biggest wave ever been  surfed.”, before he passed  away on that day. He is survived by wife Susan, two beautiful  little daughters, brother, sister, his parents.

To our dear Vibes,  you were a fun-loving and selfless person with a great sense of humour, who  encouraged all of us to share and work together.  We sadly missed you a  lot.
We will never forget you because you were part of IDSA's history  that hosted the wonderful events like Deaf Surfari I 2003 and the first  world deaf surfing contest in Phillip Island  2005. Had it not been for them, we would never have  existed in the first place.  We knew that you would have loved very  much to join us for the next event that would be held in Japan.  Let us  go and surf together with his spirit at World Deaf Surfing Championship in  2007 - a BIG SUCCESS.

In our hearts, we thank you very  much.

We Love You For Ever And Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

The United States Deaf Surfriders Association is saddened to hear that the world has lost a great leader, person and family man.  Vibes dedicated countless hours to the Deaf Australia Boardriders Association as the president, and the International Deaf Surfriders Association, working hard to make last year's Phillips Island World Championships the amazing success that it was.  He was a hard-working pioneer and will be remembered by many of us for a long time.  We hope that Vibes is in a better place now, and getting barreled.
Sincerely, Paul McDonnell

Not only Ian (Vibes) does surf, he also did the 'Policemanning' in acting theatre days way back about 10 years ago. When I first saw him, he looks scruffy with matted hair and unclean shaven beard, wearing oldclothes and thongs BUT once I get to know him he was a truly gentleman with a a great sense of humour! I
realised that his looks is not important, it was his kind hearted that captured my heart! He helped me to be confidence and boost up my self esteem.

So Vibes, I will never forget you funny man and THANK YOU !!!!

Love your theatre friend

Thinking of you and sharing your sorrow.

Nearly one and half years ago, I first met you at Phillip Island for World Deaf Pre-Trial Surfing - Very great organized. You were wonderful gentleman and humorist. We (International deaf peoItziar from Basque Country (Spain).

Ian “Vibes” was a pioneer Western Australian deaf surfer as he had organised for first Australian Deaf
Surf Competition at “Three Bears” near Yallingup in West Aust in January 1986 after Australian Deaf Games

in Perth. He presented his homemade wooden trophy to younger Victorian surfer who won 1st top score!
I would never forget Ian “Vibes” forever so he was great bloke and unselfish and tireless man.
Plus I had good lesson from him when I was young surfer!! He was always good humour man.

We people, miss him forever!!

I felt very privileged to have met Vibes and Susan and chosen to help with the World Deaf Surf delegates. The first time I met Vibes and the gang was when I had a surprise visit from my Japanese friend (who by the way is involved with the deaf surf in Japan) at Stuarts Point,NSW. A few days later, I was at the Gold Coast with the US, Japanese and Australian delegates and formed the World Deaf Surfing Assoc. I was then asked to translate again this time in Phillip Island with the rest of the world. How good was that! I will never forget Vibes passion for surfing and his passion for WDSA. I hope the WDSA will continue to grow as Vibes wanted to. I will miss him dearly. I will always think of Vibes when I look at the surf. My heart goes out to you Susan and the girls!!

With all my love Sally Akiyama

I first met Vibes about 3 years ago.I returned home after checking the surf and to my amazement there were 3 cars with heaps of boards on the top
of the cars..I had no idea of who these people were (about 8 guys) until I saw my old mate Kojima San.He hadn’t been to my house before and somehow he got here without any hassles...Vibes and Kojima San and the others were on their way up to QLD. We only had a few hours together as they were on a mission to get to QLD. Just in that short time I could feel a friendship forming and I was hoping that one day we could meet again for a longer time. I am so saddened to hear of his passing and my thoughts and prayers go out to his Family and Friends .

Message for Ian Murray, Thank you for being such good friends to everyone. Ian was always happy and positive about life. Now he is at peace.
We will miss you.
God bless to Susan's family.

Love Kathy, Kim Roberts and family

We came from many different parts of the world to the sleepy town of dongara in the early eighties. We worked hard, surfed hard and played hard, as each carefree day blended into the next. Vibes was an integral part of our little community back then, and much loved by all who knew him. His energy and joy and love of life was and still is an inspiration to us all. He would go out of his way to help anyone, asking only for a smile in return. His spirit will always live amongst us. May God bless you and your family.

Ross and Janet Parris

Every once in a while during our time on earth we have the chance to cross paths with a truly special person. Ian (Vibes) Murray was certainly special in every respect. In the short time we were priviledged to really know Ian we witnessed the inspiration he so readily gave to all around him.

At an orphange in Bali, Indonesia, catering for Disadvantaged & Deaf Orphan Children and where our charity 'Bikabele Cares For Kids' is assisting with the provision of hearing aids & speech therapy, we saw Ian wield his special magic and win the hearts and minds of all who were there when he visited in February. It was an incredible and beautiful experience. With language no barrier, Ian was soon communicating & joking with the orphans in his own unique way, and watching these children respond to Ian and the joy he created, are memories we will all cherish forever.

Thank you Ian for the Legacy and Inspiration you leave us all. You will always be in our hearts & the hearts of those special Balinese children with whom you shared your soul that day.

I am Ali Ozegovic, Ian’s niece. I know that might make me biased, but he truly was an amazing one of a kind individual. I have a gaping hole in my heart having watched my special uncle pass away, as I loved him more like a brother than an uncle. Right up until the end he inspired me to be a better person and amazed me with his exceptional and warm sense of humour. It is so wonderful to come to your web site and see how many people he has touched during his time with us, it is humbling beyond description. I have spent this week end with his 2 gorgeous girls, and they have been lucky enough to have inherited so many of their daddys’ cheeky and wonderful way. He loved life for every moment he was here, and all of you – his friends – helped make that possible for him. Thank you so much for loving “Vibes” and may he live forever in our hearts.

Murray family and new mate! - Vibes

Please accept my heartfelt sympathies for the loss of your husband. I always remember him when we met him and his wife first time at Deaflympic on beach volleyball in Melbourne 2005. We chatted serious about surfing. He get very friendly easily. You are best! I will think of you while I surf anywhere in the world (wink)

Lots of love

As a surfing buddy of Ian's our shared passion for surfing the West Australian coast dates back to the 70's. We shared many days in the sun and just as many after parties where Ian taught people a higher form of communication. Above the loud stereo he could pick the vibe and lip read, a great skill. We shared milestone birthdays and attended each others' weddings, so naturally I was not prepared for his passing. I learned of Ian's passing while talking to a mutual friend via sign language in a very crowded bar, that same skill Ian taught me all those years ago. We always knew Ian had special qualities, he was a driver, a doer, always on the go. His legacy is more than fond memories of sunny surf days and good times, he leaves behind a demonstrated passion for improving the lot of fellow hearing impaired people.

To his family and friends, the sun will never set on the memory of Ian "Vibes" Murray
